The Kings Head in Yarmouth

This pub is situated in the middle of Yarmouth, almost opposite the ferry terminal. It is a very old traditional pub dating back hundreds of years. They have a wonderful open fire which can be found roaring most winter days. The atmosphere inside is warm & friendly. Michelle & Tim run the pub & welcome all who enter….dogs are also welcome! There is a wide variety of food on the core menu, with a daily specials board which changes weekly. The beer is very good too, especially the Doombar!! They have a quiz on a Sunday night during the quieter months, which is a great laugh. All money raised gets donated to local charities. Quiz starts at 9pm.. Again I would advise booking for a meal at weekends & high season as this is probably the most popular pub in Yarmouth……telephone number is 01983 760351.

The Crown at Shorewell

This is a very pretty little pub, just past the village of Brighstone. It has a shallow stream with trout in it. Very popular, especially in the summer. I would advise booking in advance any time you go. The food is delicious, with an extensive menu……the telephone number is 01983 740293.

The Wheatsheaf in Yarmouth

This is a pub which has a more up to date bistro feel to it. Cheaper on the whole than the Kings Head, & food pretty good. It also has some fab pictures in there & again the staff are friendly.

The George Hotel in Yarmouth

If you fancy a special night out with nouvelle cuisine food, The George is a lovely alternative to the local pub! They have a beautiful conservatory which they use as their dining room. They also have a beautiful garden at the back which is lovely to sit in & just have a cream tea in the summer if you don’t want an evening or lunchtime meal there…..needless to say, it is rather more expensive…..but worth it once in a while, in my opinion.

The Sunbo Chinese Takeaway

This takeaway is in Totland, just down the road. In my opinion the food is delicious. They do deliver for an extra pound…… & have delivered to this address on several occasions !!! You will find a menu & price list in the cutlery drawer in the kitchen.

Yarmouth Harbour have boats which do various trips…i.e to The Needles, or fishing trips, or trips down the River Yar. The office to book these is based next to the Lifeboat shop in Yarmouth…..These trips are obviously weather dependant.

Walks

There are many walks from the bungalow. The footpath you can see by the entrance gates to Cliff End will eventually take you to Yarmouth. Just follow it down through the woods till you come to a road. Cross over & just a little further up the road to the right is a little path which cuts through to the concrete walkway to Yarmouth. Half way through the woods (if you fancy a detour) is a path to the left, which will take you down to Fort Victoria. If you carry on walking past Fort Victoria along the beach, you will find a lovely cafe called The Boat House. You could stop there for a cuppa & one of their gorgeous homemade cakes! They also serve food at lunchtime & evenings during peak season.

When the tide is out at Cliff End, you can access the beach at the end of Brambles Chine (just follow the cliff edge round to the last bungalow). There is a big concrete ramp & steps there that go down to the beach. Turn left & follow the beach to Colwell & if you fancy a longer walk, keep following the concrete walkway & 15/20 minutes later you will reach the beautiful little beach at Totland Bay.

If you need information on tide times, bus time tables, walks, cycle routes, visitor attractions, or maps around the island, you will find them all in the wicker basket in the lounge. If you take any out for the day, please could you make sure you replace them in the basket so they are there for the next guests…..thank you.
